08-04-2026 Attorney General Todd Rokita calls on Congress to help states fight Medicaid welfare fraud
Summary
Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita, joined by 16 other state attorneys general, sent a letter to Congress urging passage of the STOP FRAUD in Medicaid Act, which would expand MFCU authority to investigate and prosecute Medicaid beneficiary recipient fraud in addition to the current provider-only scope. Under existing federal law, MFCU funding is restricted to provider fraud investigations. Rokita cited Indiana MFCU statistics for the prior 12 months: 52 providers indicted or charged, 41 convictions, 59 referrals for exclusion, and $100 million recovered since he took office.
