Attorney General Griffin Announces Conviction Of Maynard Woman For Exploitation Of An Endangered Or Impaired Person
What the document says
On October 19, 2026, Amanda Patton, 46, of Maynard, Arkansas, pled guilty to one count of Abuse of an Endangered or Impaired Adult, a Class B felony, in a case prosecuted by the Arkansas Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU). Patton was sentenced to 72 months in the Arkansas Department of Corrections, plus 84 months Suspended Imposition of Sentence, and was ordered to pay restitution as a condition of her suspended sentence. The conduct at issue involved Patton's use of her position as the victim's Power of Attorney to spend more than $84,000 of the victim's personal funds. Those funds were used to purchase multiple cars, recreational vehicles, and personal items for Patton's own benefit. The case was investigated by Special Agent Laura Glover and prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Corinne Kwapis of the Arkansas MFCU, with assistance from Third Judicial Prosecuting Attorney Devon Holder. The Arkansas MFCU receives 75 percent of its funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under a grant totaling $4,956,144 for Federal fiscal year 2027, of which $3,717,108 is federally funded; the remaining 25 percent, totaling $1,239,036 for State Fiscal Year 2027, is funded by Arkansas General Revenue.
What this may mean
Applies to individuals serving in fiduciary roles, including as Power of Attorney, for endangered or impaired adults in Arkansas. Puts at issue the MFCU's jurisdiction to investigate and prosecute financial exploitation of vulnerable adults outside of direct Medicaid-billing fraud. The $84,000 restitution obligation and 72-month custodial sentence reflect the sentencing exposure under Arkansas Class B felony statutes for this conduct.
