BT202647: IHCP clarifies home health Medicare enrollment requirement

Score 66PRIMARYregulatoryState MedicaidIN

Summary

IHCP Bulletin BT202647 (March 31, 2026) clarifies the previously announced requirement that Indiana Medicaid home health agencies (provider type 05) be Medicare-enrolled by July 1, 2026. Indiana Senate Enrolled Act 222 (2026) creates a safe harbor allowing non-Medicare-enrolled agencies to remain IHCP-enrolled past June 30, 2026, if they submitted a CMS-855A application to CMS before April 1, 2026, or initiated enrollment with a CMS-approved accrediting organization before that date. Agencies relying on this safe harbor must complete the Medicare enrollment process by June 30, 2027, or face IHCP deactivation.

What this may mean

Indiana home health agencies that did not submit a CMS-855A or initiate accreditation-organization enrollment before April 1, 2026, face IHCP deactivation on July 1, 2026. Agencies that did initiate the process before that date have until June 30, 2027, to complete Medicare enrollment, and must submit time-stamped documentation of their application to IHCP by June 30, 2026, to preserve their enrollment status. Failure to provide that documentation by the June 30, 2026 deadline results in deactivation regardless of whether an application was actually filed.
