What the document says

Yohanna Tab, 57, of Romeoville, Illinois, pleaded guilty in Will County Circuit Court to one count of Class 2 felony fraud in connection with a scheme to defraud the Illinois Medicaid Home Services Program of $38,406. The court ordered full restitution of $38,406 to the state and sentenced Tab to second chance probation. The Illinois Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit alleged that Tab was a recipient of services through the Medicaid Home Services Program and that her son, Johnny Collier, was enrolled as her personal assistant and billed for those services. After Collier relocated to Texas in January 2022, Tab continued to submit claims for his personal assistant services, fraudulently receiving Medicaid benefits through at least February 2024, a period of approximately 25 months. The MFCU opened its investigation following a referral from the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, Office of the Inspector General (HFS-OIG). Assistant Attorney General Dan Duffy prosecuted the case. The MFCU receives 75% of its funding from HHS under a grant award totaling $12,292,668 for federal fiscal year 2027, with the remaining 25%, totaling $4,097,556, funded by the state of Illinois.

What this may mean

Applies to Illinois Medicaid Home Services Program participants and enrolled personal assistants billing for in-home support services. Puts at issue the submission of claims for services by a personal assistant who is no longer present in the state or rendering care. The HFS-OIG referral mechanism and MFCU prosecution authority are activated in connection with fraudulent Medicaid billing under state Medicaid fraud statutes.
