HI SB 2998: RELATING TO MEDICAL CANNABIS.
Read the full document at Hawaii Legislature (healthcare bills).
What this may mean
If enacted, the bill creates employment-discrimination liability for Hawaii employers, including healthcare organizations, who take adverse action based on an employee's medical cannabis cardholder status. Professional and vocational licensing boards, including state medical and nursing boards, would be barred from imposing discipline on licensees solely for lawful medical cannabis use. Healthcare employers with safety-sensitive positions retain the ability to use fit-for-duty testing under defined conditions.
