HCA and DSHS to complete off-cycle provider revalidations

What the document says

At the direction of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) and the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) announced they will complete off-cycle revalidations for certain health care providers by June 5, 2028. Providers enrolled with HCA and DSHS who are selected will receive notices by email or mail with instructions to complete the process.

The announcement states that revalidation is a federally required process occurring every five years to confirm that a provider's Apple Health (Medicaid) provider enrollment information and credentials are accurate and meet state and federal regulations. These off-cycle revalidations will occur earlier than the normal five-year timeline.

Depending on the risk level of the provider, the revalidation process may require unannounced site visits and background checks. The announcement references an off-cycle revalidation FAQ, the HCA revalidation webpage, and a 2026 provider revalidation strategy as supplemental resources.

Providers may contact HCA Provider Enrollment via an online support portal or by phone at 1-800-562-3022, ext. 16137, available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. DSHS Provider Revalidation is contactable by email.

What this may mean

Medicaid-enrolled providers in Washington State, including physicians, hospitals, clinics, and other Apple Health participating entities, may need to respond to revalidation notices and complete credentialing and enrollment verification processes ahead of the June 5, 2028 deadline. Providers classified at higher risk levels could require preparation for unannounced site visits and background checks as part of compliance with this CMS-directed revalidation cycle.
