Notice of Intent to Renew the Katie Beckett Waiver

Score 46PRIMARYregulatoryState MedicaidCT

Summary

The Connecticut Department of Social Services issued a notice of intent to apply to CMS for renewal of the Katie Beckett Waiver (KBW), which expires December 31, 2026. Pursuant to Public Act 25-42, the proposed renewal lowers the maximum eligibility age from 22 to 18 years old, a substantive change that will affect the eligible population served under the waiver. The notice is issued under Connecticut General Statutes section 17b-8.

What this may mean

Connecticut children enrolled in the Katie Beckett Waiver who are between ages 18 and 22 at the time of renewal approval will lose eligibility under the revised age cap if CMS approves the change, affecting their access to Medicaid home- and community-based services. Providers serving that age cohort will experience a reduction in the enrolled population. The change applies exclusively to Connecticut and takes effect contingent on CMS approval before the December 31, 2026 expiration.
